The Autumnal Equinox and 5th Qi Period for 2025

Autumn – the Yangming Period

The Yangming period, starting at the Autumnal equinox on September 22nd  and lasting until November 20th, marks a crucial seasonal transition from Yang to Yin. This period is characterized by noticeably cooler and drier weather, typical of Autumn. It signifies a vital change in energy, where daylight diminishes, and nights grow longer. In terms of elemental representation, this phase corresponds with Metal, which embodies the season's severity while also reflecting the inner beauty of natural transformation and the cycles of life and decay. The transition into Yangming encourages reflection and prepares us for the introspective qualities of Winter ahead.

In 2025, the Qi period will experience the influence of Taiyin Qi, characterized by dampness. This is significant because Taiyin naturally precedes Yangming in the yearly seasonal cycle, indicating a transition that can impact various aspects of nature and well-being. However, when Taiyin occurs during the typically dry season of Autumn, it can lead to notable fluctuations in conditions, resulting in an alternating dominance between moisture and dryness. This phenomenon is described as a cycle where "dryness and damp dominate alternately," highlighting the complexity of seasonal interactions and their potential effects on health and the environment.

Autumn is characterized by a cool and clear natural Qi, which influences our well-being. The Taiyin Guest Qi tends to be warmer and more Damp. Damp can feel heavy both in nature and within the body, leading to stagnation. A common effect of internal Damp is digestive sluggishness, which can contribute to cognitive effects such as a foggy or unclear mind. During this Autumn, many individuals may notice a lack of mental clarity or sharpness, prompting the need for dietary and exercise adjustments.

Autumn is an ideal season to organize and consolidate the often scattered and chaotic patterns of the warmer months. This transitional time not only encourages physical activity but also promotes mental focus and clarity. Engaging in activities such as decluttering living spaces, reassessing goals, and preparing for the approaching Winter can help stimulate the body and encourage a more centered mindset. Embracing the Autumn season can lead to a more productive and harmonious lifestyle as it provides an opportunity for reflection and renewal.

To enhance overall well-being and maintain cognitive clarity, incorporating routines that alleviate Dampness is beneficial. This can be achieved by engaging in moderate exercise and opting for lighter, drier foods that promote digestion and mental clarity.

The last occurrence of this Qi combination was during the fifth Qi period of 2019. Reflecting on this time can provide valuable insights into the events and lifestyle during that period, which could help us understand current energies. Consider your health and well-being from that time; were there any notable changes or challenges? If you are a practitioner of any kind, think back to the common conditions or themes you encountered in your practice. Identifying these patterns can enhance your understanding of how the Qi influences both personal health and broader societal issues.
