Second Qi Period: March 21st – May 20th

“The cold does not leave.

The flowers are covered with snow; the water freezes

….

Cold and rain arrive frequently”

Spring into Early Summer – the Shaoyin Period

We have just entered the second Qi period, governed by Shaoyin Fire Qi, which runs from March 21 to May 20. This time signifies the growth of Yang energy and the arrival of Spring, marked by the blooming of plants as the cold Yin season recedes. New life emerges, days warm up, and outdoor activities flourish, promoting well-being and a connection to nature.

In 2025, the Guest Qi for this time period is Taiyang (Cold), symbolizing Winter's chill. This persistent cold hampers growth, making the transition to Spring slow and difficult for young plants. Patience is essential as nature balances the warmth of early Spring with lingering winter. Consequently, early Spring manifestations will be unpredictable, impacting environmental patterns and agricultural productivity.

As winter lingers during the first Qi period, it affects our well-being, necessitating protective measures. The cold and rainy weather increases colds and flu, stressing our immune systems. Although Spring awakens a desire for decluttering and dietary cleanses, it’s wise to delay significant changes until temperatures stabilize. This allows our bodies to adapt better to dietary shifts.

During this time, projects may stall, notably coinciding with Mercury retrograde from March 14th to April 6th, 2025. This period encourages us to revisit and refine our plans for future success. Although challenges may arise, patience is essential for overcoming obstacles and paving the way for growth.

This period highlights Fire as the dominant natural Qi, symbolizing creativity, while Water serves as the Guest Qi, representing contemplation and rest. This contrast suggests a potential conflict; the dynamic energy of Fire may clash with Water's reflective nature. Consequently, individuals may need to work harder in their creative efforts before achieving results. This time calls for a slower creative process, emphasizing thoughtful consideration and reflection to effectively express ideas and engage with the environment.

Dietary Choices

Seasonal dietary choices are essential for our body’s balance. In this season, we can support the Fire element by adopting a lighter diet. Focus on nutrient-rich foods to boost immunity against the cold, including seasonal fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and warming spices for overall health.
